Dr. John Marchese, who for nearly 40 years provided the High Country with obstetric and gynecological services , passed away Sunday evening at his home from a malignant brain tumor.

An online article noted, in 2006, that due to Dr. Marchese’s expertise “approximately eight-thousand babies have entered the world with his help since he began practicing medicine”

The same article noted that “as the ninth doctor joining the staff at the old Watauga Hospital, and the only specialist when he arrived in Boone in 1970, Dr. Marchese helped forge the way for improved health care and the latest technological advances that medicine had to offer in this area”.

Service arrangements for the 73 year old are being conducted by Hampton Funeral and Cremation Service.
