61-year-old Steven Ross Dickson, of Raleigh, died Wednesday at his summer home in Fleetwood after a chainsaw accident.

According to Jesse Campbell of the Jefferson Post, Dickson called 911 around 11:00 Wednesday morning saying he needed medical assistance.

A spokesperson at the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office told High Country Radio Dickson was dead when emergency personnel arrived at the scene 14 minutes later.

Authorities found Dickson had suffered a serious injury to the neck area while cutting low hanging limbs near his driveway.  Authorities say Dickson died of blood loss.

Ashe County Sheriff, James Williams, told the Post he believes the saw’s chain jumped off the bar and struck Dickson.

Williams told the Post that Dickson wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs and called the incident a freak accident.
