A motion that would let North Carolina schools start the academic year as early as August 8 is being reconsidered by a state House panel.
According to the Associated Press, the House Commerce Committee began considering the measure again today after it was voted down nearly a week ago.
The A.P. reports the tourism industry is fighting the change because it would affect summer vacations, but some education groups say starting school earlier would allow students to complete first semester exams before Christmas vacation.
Lawmakers must make a decision on the new legislation by Thursday.
