Golf course compromise reached? Groups hope so. PDF Print

A meeting this morning on the possible eminent domain action by the town of Seven Devils ended on a positive note.

After a brief rehash of last week’s debate, town council members and members of the Cottom family discussed the possibility of sharing the property. Under the proposed system, the Cottoms would expand the snow tubing course at Hawksnest, as intended, and lease the land to Seven Devils during the summer for a golf course. While the Cottoms mentioned parking might be a problem, council members like Kathy Copley jumped at the opportunity to save the course.  If parking is the only big concern, she expressed hope that the council and Cottoms could come up with a solution. As for the community group to save the golf course? We asked spokesman Noble Hendrix.

Hendrix said his organization would be in support of such a compromise.

Lenny Cottom also maintained optimism. Discussions will continue at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Town Council chambers.
