The Watauga High women’s soccer team won its third consecutive game by knocking off Avery 3-1 in a non-conference game on Friday night in Newland.
Ashlin Clark scored twice; Sidney Atkinson had the other WHS (6-8-3 record) goal. The Pioneers return home to play South Caldwell on Tuesday night. That will also be Senior Night. No official word yet, but there is a chance the game might be played at Jack Groce Stadium. An announcement will be made on Monday. And the Pioneers will wrap up the regular-season schedule with McDowell on Wednesday and Freedom on Friday. Both of those games will be played at the Ted Mackeroll Soccer Complex. The Pioneers lost to McDowell 1-0 earlier this year in Marion; they played Freedom to a scoreless tie down in Morganton. The Pioneers (5-3-1 in the Northwestern 4A Conference) lead Freedom by one-half game for third place. The Patriots are 5-4-1 in league play.
