ASU made it official at 9:30 am that Buzz Peterson is the new men’s basketball coach.
Peterson, a two-time SoCon Coach of the Year (1998 and 2000), is in his second go-round with the program. He led ASU to 79 wins, which includes three consecutive 20-win seasons, a SoCon tournament championship and an NCAA tournament berth---only the second one in school history. Peterson replaces Houston Fancher, who left on March 16th. And he takes over a program that returns 12 players and two red-shirts freshmen next year. ASU was 13-18 last year. Peterson, who was the Player Personnel Director of the Charlotte Bobcats, was ASU 's top choice from day one. He has also coached at Tennessee, Tulsa and Coastal Carolina. He has 201 wins and an NIT championship to his credit.
