The Town of Beech Mountain is planning their second annual “A Cool 5” race.
According to the town’s public relations representative, Craig Distl, the path for the five-mile race is about 5,000 feet in elevation with moderate climbs to around 5,400 feet. The course goes through the top of Beech Mountain, through the slopes of Ski Beech, and racers will be able to see views of Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell.
The entry fee is $25 through May 15, and $30 afterward. Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate.
If a five-mile race is a little too daunting, racers can also participate in a 1.5-mile fun run.
Distl said last year’s race featured over 150 runners and raised over $20,000 to construct a community playground.
This year’s race is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at 9:00 a.m.
