Despite chilly temperatures and rainy conditions, around 200 protesters gathered in the Hardee’s parking lot beside the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone for the town’s first Tax Day Tea Party to protest for tax reform.

Several protesters were carrying signs or wearing shirts expressing contempt about the federal government’s bail out bills.

A popular idea with several of the protesters was the FairTax.  Part of the idea of the FairTax plan would be to replace all federal income and payroll with a national retail sales tax.

Boone’s tea party was one of several across the nation and 40 across the state.

The nonpartisan rally began at 4:00 Wednesday afternoon and lasted about two hours.
