Team captains for the Ashe County Relay for Life met on Monday to talk about fundraising ideas, introduce new teams, and work on other preliminary plans for their 2009 event.

Ashe County’s Relay for Life Media Chair, DeAnna Lewis, said the theme for this year’s event is “we are all in this together.”  Lewis said this theme was chosen because of the way cancer affects everyone.

Lewis said team captains also discussed plans for their third annual Womanless Beauty Pageant.  Past winners include “Cindy Rella,” better known as Calvin Roten, the owner of High Country Electric Motors, and “Ilene Dover,” also known as Barry Aldridge of ReMax Realty.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and will be held at Ashe County High School.  Lewis said tickets would be available at the door.
