Conflicting reports over the weekend regarding
one possible candidate for the job.
Southern Conference coach of the year, and Citadel head coach,
Ed Conroy seems to be at the center of this weekend’s spotlight in the search
for the next head Mountaineer.
On Friday The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C reported
that Appalachian had contacted Conroy about the position.
Saturday afternoon The Winston-Salem Journal reported, on
their website, that a source in Appalachian’s athletics department had told the
paper that the Friday report was inaccurate and that ASU had not contacted
Conroy but that the school is interested in him.
That source also told the Journal that Citadel athletic
director Larry Leckonby has been asked for permission for the Mountaineers to
talk with Conroy, but permisson was denied.
Under Conroy, The Citadel finished 20-13 and earned
the school’s first ever appearance in a post season basketball tournament at
the College Insider.com tournament.
