Governor Bev Perdue announced earlier this week that she would take $145 million from state funds to help cover the government’s bills.
According to the Associated Press, the governor will be transferring money from 18 sources, including two trust funds that receive money from the national tobacco settlement, to make sure there are enough funds to cover the state’s day-to-day operations.
Perdue also issued tougher spending regulations and said money will be given to state agencies only for mandatory obligations like salaries, debt service, and utilities.
