Appalachian State and Western Carolina put aside their bitter rivalry Saturday and teamed up to defeat UNC-Wilmington and East Carolina in the first annual Mountains verses Beaches track meet in Cullowhee.
According to GoASU.com and CatamountSports.com, both the Mountaineers and Catamounts each had 11 top-place finishes between their men’s and women’s teams.
The two schools have dominated the Southern Conference as either Appalachian State or Western have won the SoCon championship in men’s outdoor track & field since 2001, and one of the schools have won the women’s crown every year since 1987 except for 1996 and 2007.
