The North Carolina General Assembly gave the final approval Thursday to a bill that would allow Grandfather Mountain to be added to North Carolina’s state park system.

According to several regional news outlets, the state is working on purchasing over 2,400 acres of undeveloped land.

After the approval by the General Assembly, he bill will now go to Governor Bev Perdue, who is expected to sign it.

No official word has been released by Grandfather Mountain, but a spokesperson from the mountain said the governor could sign the bill next week.
