Owners
of Mountain House Assisted Living Facility are “heartbroken” over the actions
of several former employees.
An investigation resulted in the arrests of Wanda
Hartley, Tiffany Darnell, Felicia Glenn and Heather Darnell on one count each
of obtaining property by false pretenses. The SBI alleges the former employees
received extra wages for time they did not work. The allegations get worse, however.
Former
director Sherry Dancy and her husband, Leroy Dancy, have also been issued
charges. Sherry Dancy is alleged to have allowed the employees to receive the
extra wages, and worse still, to have obtained property and money from Mountain
House residents under false pretenses. She is also charged with practicing law
without a license. Bureau investigators allege Dancy prepared Power of Attorney
and Last Will and Testament papers that made herself and husband Leroy the
recipients of residents’ property.
The
Dancys could not be reached for comment.
Mountain House Assisted Living Facility is in
Wilkesboro and is owned by Sanford-based Davis, Davis & Dodson LLC. The
parent company is actively cooperating with Wilkes County officials in the
ongoing investigation.
