As of yesterday evening, almost 300 federal and state
firefighters were continuing the fight on a blaze that started Friday from
lightning strikes.
As of 6 p.m., the fires had already burned over 1,200 acres.
The estimated containment is only 15 percent. Air tankers and helicopters
dropped water and retardants on the Dobson Knob fire yesterday, which at one
point threatened to jump fire lines put in earlier in the week. The Dobson fire
has burned approximately 500 acres while the Shortoff Mountain fire is still at
approximately 700 acres.
