Two weeks ago, Mary Carol Ochipa lost one of her best friends. Buck, her beloved yellow lab was shot in Valle Crucis while walking on Old Hartley road.
The vet who retrieved the bullet said, whoever the shooter was, he or she shot with intention. A 22 long shell was retrieved from the body. Could the shooter have been acting in self-defense? Absolutely not, Ochipa said. It was sort of like the "neighborhood dog," she said. Besides, she added, whoever heard of a mean Labrador? The Ochipas are aware that Crimestoppers is already offering a reward for information. They plan on doubling that reward. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 828-262-4555.
