A traffic check over the weekend resulted in a police chase on highway 321.
19-year-old Theodore Richardson of Blowing Rock pulled over at the roadblock, which took place near the Chick-Fil-A in Boone early Saturday. As an officer approached the vehicle, Richardson allegedly sped away in his vehicle, going so far as to swerve towards an officer, prompting swift action by Boone Police. A police chase led to the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance where Richardson lost control when attempting to turn. While the suspect refused to be tested for intoxication, police believe alcohol to be the reason for his erratic behavior. Richardson was detained at the Watauga County Jail on a variety of charges including assault with a deadly weapon, driving while license revoked, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving. He was held on a $5,000 secured bond.
