Suspicious materials were found near a Wilkes home over the weekend.

Resident Gail Jennings reported she had found evidence someone attempted to start a fire near her home. A deputy found a rag that smelled like it was soaked with gasoline and a burnt board. While damage was a minimal $500 and restricted to the family’s heat pump, no motive has been suggested. A fire investigator will be taking over the case.
