Yesterday state officials told the Environmental Review Commission citizens and businesses need to help accommodate the state’s growing need for safe solid waste disposal by recycling more.

The information came out of an annual report on solid waste management and a review of recycling statewide. A projection given was that 9.9 million state residents will be producing 1.45 tons of waste per person by 2015. More than 25,000 tons of aluminum cans that could earn $30 million a year in the recycling market, and 1.2 million tons of paper, worth $50 million, are dumped each year.
