Apparent murder-suicide on Apalossa Trail PDF Print

An update on a story we brought you earlier today: The two bodies discovered yesterday were apparently the result of a murder suicide.

The case has been closed, according to Chief Detective Dee Dee Rominger, and no suspects are being sought.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered bodies yesterday morning around 9:23 after responding to a 911 call. Rominger could not confirm if it was a domestic dispute. The bodies were those of Susan Pearce Hayes and Dale Steven Hayes. Based on preliminary findings, it appears Dale Hayes shot Susan Hayes and then himself. Susan died of gunshot wounds to the chest area and Dale died of an allegedly self-inflicted single gunshot wound to the neck area.

Rominger was proud of the organized way Watauga deputies closed off the scene until investigators arrived. They did a good job, she said.
