Heritage Festival gets spooky PDF Print

The 2007 Wilkes Heritage Festival hits the High Country Saturday.

It’s a win-win situation, Heritage Museum curator Jenn Pena says. There's something for everyone, especially the history lover.

Along with food, crafts and music, visitors can pay a small fee for a spooky surprise. A candlelit ghost tour hits the streets at 7:30 for a small fee. Wilkes is a haunting place, and destinations like the Old Smithey Hotel are sure to make you shiver. At least, that’s one of Penya’s favorite haunted locales. She says eerie happenings at the hotel have actually been documented. Apparently Mrs. Smithey liked things a certain way. When people leave a room occasionally the dinner tables are reset to her liking upon their return.

The festival starts at 2:00.
