Homeless rates in Burke County are up 18 percent from last year, according to the Morganton News Herald.
So far, 180 individuals or families have been recorded, that’s up from 148 in 2008.
Burke Continuum of Care conducted the survey. The organization is a group of county residents, non-profits and government agencies working to find help for the homeless in the community.
Based on its findings, Burke Continuum of Care believes a combination of permanent supportive housing, appropriate use of relocation grants, rental assistance and long-term subsidies could reduce homelessness.
