This Saturday, walk for more than your personal health.
The second annual Walk for Hospice event is set to run in conjuction with the Wilkes Heritage Festival. The event is Saturday at the Yadkin River Greenway, and with your help, Hospice may be able to meet its $15,000 goal, according to social worker Angie Shoemake. The money goes to medications not covered by insurance. It also goes towards celebrations like Mother's Day.
Over two hundred people are set to participate, that’s approximately fifty more than volunteered last year. The event is put on by the Samuel K. Dowell Foundation. Its namesake was affectionately known as “Sam” and lived in the Rock Creek Community. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2000, he was able to spend his last days with his family thanks to Hospice. For information on how you can help, contact Laura Hubbard at Hospice at 336-903-7700.
