A plan to move 25 graves from the property for the new Watauga High School to Mount Lawn Memorial Park is not the only issue Watauga County Commissioners have dealt with this week.
Schuller Ferris Linstrom and Associates, or SfL+a, the architecture firm designing the new high school, requested a $39,000 increase in funding. Additional property on the Ray Greene lot was not included in the original estimate, the firm said. Commission chair Jim Deal was irritated at the increase, especially since the firm recommended the additional purchase. That, and residents’ opposition fueled the commission’s unanimous rejection of the measure.
The public hearing gave Commissioners a lot to think about, and they did not want to authorize funds before they made a final decision on the property.
