Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson has been named to serve on the Local Government Advisory Council by Governor-elect Bev Perdue.
According to a press release issued by the Town of Boone, during the first meeting of the Council on December 17th in Raleigh, Perdue met with the executive committee of the NCLM Board of Directors, representatives of the N.C. Metropolitan Mayors’ Coalition, the executive committee of the N.C. Association of County Commissioners and other municipal and county elected officials to discuss local government needs in the new year.
Clawson said besides a representative in Brevard, she was the only one named to the council to represent the North Carolina mountains, so she is very humbled.
Clawson said, “I think it’s very important for our area to have a voice in state government. One of the things we talked about was the stimulus package that the government is going to be presenting, and I think Governor-elect Perdue is very interested in that and interested in the monies that might be coming to North Carolina and be spread around the state. In our part of the little world, we could certainly use extra money.”
Last month’s discussion also focused on protecting local revenues, infrastructure funding, and collective bargaining issues.
