The Foscoe Volunteer Fire Department is expanding in order to better serve the Valle Crucis community. The FVFD plans to open a new substation on DeWitt Barnett Road later this year. Construction on the substation has not commenced, though a site has been selected. Plans call for the substation to have two tanker trucks and a pumper with expenditures scheduled to occur over the next several years. Implementing a Valle Crucis substation will help speed up response times in the area. It will also help reduce homeowner’s fire insurance rates, which are based on a home’s distance from a fire department, certification and training of the serving firefighters and other factors.
