An arson attempt Thursday night has left local authorities scratching their heads.

Sergeant Matt Stevens of the Boone Police Department said Thursday night at about 8:15, an intentional fire was set at the rear of the Miller and Johnson Law Firm located at 766 West King Street in Boone.

Stevens said the Boone Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire and damage was limited to the doors and exterior of the building.

This arson would be considered second-degree arson because the structure was unoccupied.  The offense is a Class G felony, punishable by 8-16 months in prison for a first time conviction.

Authorities are looking for the culprit.  Anyone with information about this arson attempt is asked to contact the Watauga County Crimestoppers at (828) 268-6959, or the Boone Fire Department at (828) 268-6190.
