A woman was mugged while putting groceries in her truck on Tuesday evening.

Captain Jim Wilson of the Boone Police Department said the incident occurred at around 8:00 Tuesday evening in the New Market Center parking lot closest to Lowe’s Food and High Country Bank.

The victim said that as she was putting groceries in her truck that the suspect ran over to her, grabbed her purse and ran towards Highway 194.

Wilson said the victim sustained minor injuries during the attack.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 170 pounds, and in his early 30’s.  He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and jeans.  There were no weapons present.

Anyone with information about this is asked to call Crimestoppers at 828-268-6959.

Crimestoppers pays rewards for information, which leads to arrests; recovery of stolen property; seizure of drugs and the location of wanted persons.

The Boone Police Department would like to remind its citizens to pay extra attention to your safety and belongings during the holidays.

Wilson said to park in well lit areas, do not leave packages or purses in view, be sure and lock your car doors, do not count or expose money while walking through the parking lots or in businesses, and be aware of your surroundings.
