The Christmas holiday gives High Country residents a chance to think of energy efficiency while decorating.
The director of public relations for Blue Ridge Electric, Renee Whitener said using LED lights will help you decorate energy efficiently.
Whitener explained that using the LED holiday lights in Christmas trees, wreaths, and around the home can save quite a bit of energy.
According to the United States Department of Energy, LED holiday lights consume 90 percent less energy than traditional miniature holiday lights and operate 30 times longer.
Whitener said LED lights are a little more expensive than the traditional holiday lights, but they typically pay for themselves in the first year’s electricity savings.
