Watauga County Crimestoppers is requesting the public’s assistance in finding a suspect who attempted to steal fuel from a kerosene-heating fuel tank at a residence.
According to the Crimestoppers report, at about 11:00 Friday night, a resident at 139 Howards Creek Road interrupted someone attempting to steal his kerosene-heating fuel from the tank outside his home.
According to the residence, the suspect fled on foot.
If anyone has any information on the identity of this individual please contact Crimestoppers at (828) 268-6959.
As the price of heating fuel rises, there is often an unfortunate rise in crimes like this, according to the Boone Police Department.
A spokesperson with the Boone P.D. said if you see anyone suspicious tampering with yours, or a neighbor’s fuel tank, report it to your local law enforcement agency.
Another tip is to talk to your heating fuel provider and ask them if they have lids that you can padlock shut for additional protection.
