Congressional candidate for the North Carolina’s 5th District, Roy Carter, released a statement this week in favor of the energy bill that was recently passed by the United States House of Representatives.
Carter’s opponent, and current Congresswoman, Virginia Foxx, spoke out against the energy bill earlier this week, calling it a “sham.”
Carter believes the bill will help the state of North Carolina in the long run, and explained, “Her argument, and it’s totally not true, is that it’s going to cost the state money is misleading the public again. This bill allows the state legislature to decide about the regulations and the financing that comes back to the state.”
Another reason Carter said he supports the new bill is to keep offshore drilling farther away from the Carolina coast.
Carter said, “I think it’s a good compromise and it’s a comprise that we need to make because if we don’t do a renewal of the ban on drilling by the 30th, they can come within a mile of our coast and drill.”
Carter pointed out that even though the bill has its flaws, seven democrats and two republican representatives from North Carolina accepted it.
Carter said, “Of course, the energy bill isn’t perfect, but it’s a great compromise and it’s a great bi-partisan compromise.”
The new energy bill will be put before the U.S. Senate for a vote in the coming weeks.
