A local church fed hundreds of Watauga High Students for free at Watauga’s much-anticipated rivalry game with Avery High Friday evening.
Cornerstone Summit, of Boone, teamed up with Bandanas Barbecue to have enough food to feed 1,000 students for free.
Cornerstone also had live music at their pre-game jamboree for the students to enjoy.
Mont Creamer, one of Cornerstone Summit’s volunteers said they had a good turnout.
Creamer said, “We had about 600 people already, and that was in about an hours time.”
The event didn’t have the same feel as other church events, and Creamer said that was by design, and explained, “We just want to get out and reach the community. That’s really what it’s all about, and impacting the next generation, our high school students. There’s no real religious affiliations tied with this, our church is just putting it on, bringing in food, and letting them eat.”
Cornerstone Summit Pastor, Reggie Hunt, said he has been asked by Watauga High’s administration to hold another similar tailgate event later in the season.
