Dr. Mark Estepp, Appalachian State University’s dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, has announced he is accepting the position of president at Southwest Virginia Community College.

In the following letter, Estepp expressed his appreciation to students, faculty and staff, as well as a supportive community. Estepp will be at Appalachian through mid-summer. An interim dean has not yet been named.

Dear Friends of Appalachian,

It is with a mixture of excitement and sadness that I wanted to tell you
that I will be leaving Appalachian State University to accept the position
as president of Southwest Virginia Community College near Richlands,

My background and educational training give me a special affinity for
community colleges. This move puts my wife, Trish, and myself in the
Appalachian mountains from which we come.

I have enjoyed a great career here at Appalachian. This is a special place,
made so not only by our outstanding students, faculty and staff, but also by
the opportunity to work with exceptional professionals like you.

I appreciate your contributions and the time you have dedicated and will
dedicate to the success of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Your
expertise and guidance are invaluable in reaching our many goals. I will
miss seeing the exciting changes in the future for the College.

I will be at Appalachian through mid-summer. An interim dean has not yet
been named, but you will be notified when that happens.

I wish you all the best.

Dr. Mark Estepp
