Watauga High Hosts Jazz Guests PDF Print

It’s all about Jazz at Watauga High this week. The school is hosting a residency with the John Brown Quintet of Durham, NC.  not at Watauga High where Duke University’s John Brown Jazz Quintet is spending a week in residency. The Quintent recently received an Indy Music Award for best Jazz Group/Artist by the triangle’s Independent Weekly. Now they are working with Watauga High Jazz students under the direction of teacher Billy Ralph Winkler. The residency is sponsored by the Watauga County Arts Council’s residency program. You can hear the fruits of their labor tomorrow night, complements of the Arts Council and the Hayes Performing Arts Center. The Watauga High School Jazz Ensemble will join the John Brown Quintet onstage for some original and new arrangements of traditional jazz standards, modern jazz pieces, and some original compositions by the band members themselves. The concert starts at 7pm Thursday Night at the Hayes Performing Arts Center.
