Information uncovered by the Charlotte Observer this week shows a company hired to audit the security systems of the North Carolina lottery was not checked by state officials.
Had the firm been checked, the fact that it was not registered to do business in North Carolina would have been uncovered. Tidwell Dewitt LLC of Alabama was the company picked to check computer systems that allow printing of lottery tickets at stores and other locations. Besides not registered to do business in the state, the company has been named in a $4 million negligence lawsuit in Atlanta. The lawsuit claimed the Tidwell Dewitt failed to find embezzlement at a company it audited for years.
