A proposed Rock Quarry in Avery County is causing quite a stir among citizens like Jason Warner.
Warner believes the Quarry would be detrimental to both the environment and the residents that leave near the site. A small victory for Warner came this week when Commissioners passed a moratorium for 90 days on high impact industries in Avery County. This will allow Commissioners to study the full effects of the quarry before a building permit is issued. The fight is not over for Warren, however. Next Tuesday at 7:00 in the Avery County Courthouse, the issue will come to a head as the State Department of Environment and Natural Resources is set to conduct a public hearing. Avery citizens are encouraged to come out. The issue is a particularly personal one to Warner.
He lives right below the proposed site. Representatives for the quarry had no comments for the press.
