The second suspect in attempted vehicle assault is in Avery County custody today. Saturday, two individuals attempted to run down officers at a roadblock, according to police reports.
Banner Elk Officer Fred Shrader fired, hitting both suspects. 20-year-old Crystal Marie Arnold was released from Cannon Memorial Hospital and served warrants earlier this week. 27-year-old Nathaniel Scott Rainbolt was released from Johnson City Medical Center into the custody of Carter County for a parole violation. He is now in Avery custody under a secured $150,000 bond and has been served warrants for a plethora of charges including 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer. Shrader is still on routine administrative leave, pending the State Bureau of Investigation’s investigation.
