The Senate agreed to pass two public records bills this week. One would close outside access to certain public hospital documents and another would clarify that all government employee compensation packages are accessible.
The first bill is a response to a state Supreme Court ruling in March that found a Wilkes County newspaper had the right to review a public hospital’s contract to buy the practice of the county’s only gastroenterologist. State Senator Steve Goss opposed the measure, saying the public has a right to know what a public entity is doing.
