A bill being considered in a House committee would require gun owners to report to authorities when the gun is lost or stolen. Anyone who failed to do so, could be charged with a misdemeanor.
The bill’s intention is to thwart “straw purchases,” when a buyer obtains a gun for someone who is not legally eligible to purchase one. Dissenters fear the measure would inadvertently target gun owners who try to protect their family. The measure will continue to be reviewed in the judiciary committee today.
