February 20, 2003, Avery County Deputy Glen Hicks was shot to death answering a call in the Old Beech Mountain Community.
Tuesday, he will be honored at the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, according to Sheriff Kevin Frye. The ceremony will be held at 12:30. This week has been designated National Police Week, and Frye would encourage all citizens to thank their law enforcement officers for their service.
