Lenoir police officers are searching for two ski-masked suspects who they say held up a convenience store in Whitnel Thursday night.
The suspects, both men, got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and were also wearing hooded sweatshirts, camouflage, and gloves. One suspect had a handgun, which he used to force a man inside the convenience store to the floor while the other suspect took two cash drawers and the store clerkâs purse. The robbery occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. An hour later, Hudson Fire Department responded to a fire on Christy Road and found burnt cash drawers, a purse and clothing police believe belong to the suspects. The crime was caught on surveillance tape, but the only description police have is one of the men was approximately 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. Residents who may have witnessed anything unusual in the Norwood Street area of Whitnel Thursday evening are encouraged to call Caldwell County Crimestoppers at 828-758-8300.
