Today, President George Bush recognized six volunteers to commemorate Military Spouse Day. Among those he presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to was North Carolina’s Shannon Maxwell.
Maxwell’s husband, Lt. Col. Tim Maxwell, suffered a traumatic brain injury overseas in a mortar attack. Shannon Maxwell co-founded Hope for the Warriors, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for service members and their families nationwide who have been impacted by injuries or death in the line of duty. She also created Wounded Warrior Spousal Support Group and organized several fundraising events to benefit people injured in war and their families.
