At last night’s Boone Town Council and Boone Area Planning Commission’s Quarterly meeting, the Council and Commission took steps to preserve the downtown business district.
An ordinance was unanimously passed by the Council to require new buildings downtown to keep their lowest levels commercial in nature. The measure is part of an effort to keep downtown a shopping district, not fill it with apartment buildings. Mayor Loretta Clawson hopes the measure will help preserve downtown’s integrity. Will lower level parking decks be affected? According to the Council, that is a separate issue for the Community Appearance Commission to deal with.
