The Litter Reduction Act of 2007 has met the approval of Watauga County Commissioners.
The law, if passed by the General Assembly, would allow consumers to earn 10 cents on every plastic bottle under a gallon they recycle. Products would have a slight price increase, but the money would instantly come back to the consumer when the bottle is recycled. Local state senator Steve Goss is pushing the measure in the Senate. Watauga County Commissioners approved a resolution in support of the deposit laws, and letters will be sent to lawmakers on the bill’s behalf.
