After a lengthy debate, Watauga County Commissioners approved the purchase of playground equipment for the “Tot Lot,”
scheduled to open July 1st. Controversy arose when deciding between equipment the kids preferred and equipment staff thought would involve less maintenance. Just when it looked like the board was going to table the discussion for the next meeting, delaying the playground’s opening once more, Commissioner Mary Moretz made a motion to purchase kid-approved equipment recommended by the parent advocates. The park will also be handicapped-accessible. Plans for a playground at Cove Creek were delayed, but the “Tot Lot” in Boone should go forth as scheduled.
