Today firefighters will switch from fighting fire tactics to rehabilitation efforts in the wildfire that has claimed 2,404 acres near Linville Gorge since April 25.

Latest numbers show 64 personnel on scene, 4 hand crews, one bull dozer, and one helicopter. Closures continue today in the Linville Gorge Wilderness and the Table Rock Area. That portion of the Mountain to Sea Trail from the Kistler Memorial Highway (Old Hwy 105) to the intersection with National Forest System Road 210 is also closed for public safety. Kistler Memorial Highway and the Spence Ridge Bridge are also closed until containment efforts are complete.

Anyone with information on the fire's cause is encouraged to contact Special Agent Jenny Davis at 828-231-0288.
