Ashe County Sheriff J. Williams is excited. The plans
for the new jail initially include room for over 100 prisoners.
With the old
jail over the maximum of 16 inmates, he's looking at quite an improvement- and
that's not all. Thanks to new security features, which include limited access,
electronic card swiping, and video monitoring systems, deputies will be safer
than ever. Architect Jack Hemphill is working to finalize the plans, and
according to Williams, it cannot happen quickly enough.
