If you enjoyed last year's Visiting Writers Series at ASU,
this year should be even better. A $15,650 award from the Helen M. Clabough
Charitable Foundation will support programming and outreach offered by
Appalachian State University's Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series
and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.
Poet and editor Sydney Lea,
playwright Jo Carson, and novelist Karen McElmurray will be among this year's
lecturers. The rising cost of travel makes this gift particularly timely,
according to co-director of the series, Susan Weinberg.
Funding also goes to the Community Art School at the Turchin
Center, which conducts visual arts workshops for pre-kindergarten students
through grade 12, at-risk youth and those with disabilities.
