|
House members voted 61-55 against a measure that would ban smoking in many public areas across North Carolina. While sponsoring representative Hugh Holliman urged lawmakers to view the bill as an effort to protect nonsmoking citizens from unwanted exposure to smoke, the argument that the measure would infringe on the rights of business owners ultimately won over the House.
