A 911 call near Banner Elk resulted in a close call for Avery County sheriff's sergeant Mike Ellenburg last week.
When Ellenburg checked to make sure a woman at a residence on Mariposa Road was alright, the woman pulled out a .32 caliber revolver. The woman, 56-year-old Norma Sue Hallmark, attempted to fire the weapon, but Ellenburg was able to grab the revolver in time. Hallmark was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
